Living Future 2015

Density in urban design has its benefits - walkability, public transportation, and land preservation through reducing sprawl. But can a city be livable to a diverse ecology of species besides humans? This interactive session will explore what habitat means in the urban jungle. How much space is actually needed for wildlife corridors and patches? How much biodiversity is possible within streetscapes, on building facades, rooftops, and within city blocks? Participants will form a walking urban ecology design charrette from the conference hotel, through the Seattle cityscape, to Freeway Park, reimagining these sites to maximize biodiversity.
